How to grow a chamomile flower from a tea bag is possible and you can do it easily. You don’t have to plant chamomile from seeds or cuttings only as long as you have tea bags. There are seeds inside the tea bags and here is the guide on how to grow your own chamomiles.

How to Grow Chamomile Flower from Tea Bag Step by Step

  1. Prepare the Supplies and Tools
Prepare 1 or 2 chamomile tea bags and several pots or containers, especially if you want to plant them indoors. If you have an empty yogurt pot or a plastic vegetable container, you can use them. Even if you only have a milk jug, this can be cut open to be the place for your chamomile.
Make sure the pots or containers are larger than too small because your plant needs space to grow and spread. For the tools, you can prepare a knife to make drainage holes in your containers or pots. If you think it’s required, you can also get a trowel or spade to sow the seeds.

  2. Create Drainage Holes
If you’re using a makeshift pot or container, especially one made of plastic, use the knife to make holes. The holes should be made in the bottom of pots or containers as drainage holes. These several drainage holes will drain excessive water when you water the plant.

  3. Fill the Pots/Containers with Soil
After succeeding at making drainage holes, it’s time to fill the pots or containers with rich and organic soil. Use spade or hands to scoop the well-drained soil to put in the pots or containers. The soil pH must also be right, because your plant grows better in 5.6-7.5 pH level of soil.

  4. Sow Chamomile Seeds from Tea Bags
How to grow a chamomile flower from a tea bag in pots can be done by tearing the tea bag first. Open the tea bag and get the seeds from inside to sow them over your soil evenly. You can either bury them or just let them on the top of the soil to germinate by receiving light.
If you prefer to bury them, make sure you sow the seeds ¼-½ inches deep with 2 inches apart. When you’ve finished sowing them, drip water over the soil in order to keep them moist. Don’t let them be in excessive wet condition because your plant only needs a little water to start with.

  5. Let the Plant Receive Enough Sunlight
If you plant Roman or German chamomiles or even both of them, let them receive full sun or partial shade. Partial shade is much better for your plants to grow during hot climates or summer. 4-6 hours of sunlight is usually enough, that’s why you can put them near the window to get the light.

  6. Let the Plant Receive Enough Water
In the beginning of plantation, the chamomiles are still young and they only need an inch of water per week. But when the plant is established, you can care less for them as long as they don’t lose the moisture. Water them but don’t let them get too soggy, then leave them dry out slightly between waterings.

How to grow chamomile flowers from a tea bag is simply like how you grow this plant from seeds. You only need to prepare the tea bag, pots or containers, some other tools, and you can just start planting. When you’ve finished with the sowing process, you can take care of the plant properly until you can harvest them.
