How to make pineapple vinegar by yourself is actually easy, especially if you have the pineapple plants at home. And if you succeed at making it, you can consume it daily for your health as pineapple vinegar contains antioxidants. Let’s take a look at the steps below on how you make the pineapple vinegar without hassle.
How to Make Pineapple Vinegar from Scratch for Gardener
Pick the Ripe Pineapple
You should know when to pick the ripe pineapples and use them to make your own pineapple vinegar. The ripe ones have yellowish skin and you can even smell a sweet aroma from the fruit. Don’t choose the overripe ones by checking out if the leaves are pulling out with a good tug.
Avoid the overripe ones to be used in making pineapple vinegar because the taste won’t be good. When the pineapple skin is a dull yellow or brown-gray, this shows that the pineapple is overripe. Make sure the stem end isn’t all moldy, because if it is, you can’t use it for pineapple vinegar.Cut the Pineapple
When you already pick the right and best pineapple, prepare a sharp knife to peel and cut the pineapple. After the knife is ready, cut the top and bottom part off first before the fruit’s sides. When all the peels are removed, don’t throw them away because you will still need them in making pineapple vinegar.
Making pineapple vinegar at home is quite easy because after removing the peels, you can slice the fruit. Slice them lengthwise and in large pieces only, but don’t get rid of both of the peels and cores. All pieces of your pineapple are basically good and required when it comes to pineapple vinegar fermentation.Make the Sugar Water
When you’re already done peeling and cutting one ripe pineapple, it’s time to make a sugar water solution. Boil 6 cups of water (1,400-1,500 ml) in a saucepan and add ¾ cups of sugar. Keep stirring during the sugar water boiling until the sugar dissolves, remove the saucepan, and let it cool.Put the Fruit and Sugar Water in A Jar
Prepare a jar that has a capacity of 1,400-1,500 ml of water. Or at least, you should have two 700-800-ml jars to accommodate all the ingredients. After getting the right jar, you can put it all together inside; from the pineapple scraps to the sugar water.
Process of making pineapple vinegar from scratch can be continued by putting the pineapple scraps first into your jar. Pour the sugar water solution after that and prepare a cloth lid and one rubber band. The cloth lid must be breathable even though you need to close the jar tightly with the rubber band.Place the Solution in the Right Place
The storage for the solution must be right, put the jar in the dark, room temperature place. Compared to the apple fermentation, pineapple ferments more rapidly, so in 24-48 hours you basically can drink it. But, you need to wait for at least a week to use it until it tastes like vinegar.Stir the Solution Daily
During the fermentation process, you may open the cloth lid so you can stir it once daily. After you remove the cloth from the lid, make sure you already prepare the new cloth lid. When you’re done stirring, replace the lid with the new one and tighten the lid with the rubber band again.
Making pineapple vinegar after you harvest your own pineapple plant is easy to do. If you want to use the vinegar for pickling recipes, make sure it has 2.4 pH. Aside from drinking the vinegar, you can use it as a salad dressing.
