Moringa tree is known as one of the most beneficial plants for health. From leaves to fruit, most parts of the Moringa plants are edible. Originating from India, Bangladesh, and Africa, anyone can grow this plant as long as the climate where you live is warm.

Tips for Healthy and Fast Moringa Tree Growth

  • Purchase the Seeds
The first step in planting Moringas is to buy the seeds. Purchasing seeds through online stores is more recommended because it is easier to find them than in local stores. Buy seeds in the amount that suits your planting needs even though you usually can buy it in large quantities.

  • Prepare the Pots
When you have the seeds, make sure you also have the pots to start planting. Usually, 6- to 7-inch pots are enough to keep the young plants. But when the tree grows well, you should move them to larger pots because of its deep taproot system. However, planting directly in a 30-inch pot or larger is also fine.

  • Make the Right Composition
When the pot is ready, fill it with soil (85%), sand (10%), and compost (5%). Don't let the seeds become waterlogged, so it is important to choose a pot with guaranteed good drainage. Sandy soils are the best one to use to grow Moringa trees as they are well-draining.

  • Plant the Seeds
If the soil composition is correct, soak the seeds overnight in water. Before planting, soaking them is recommended in order to speed up germination. After soaking the seeds, they can be planted immediately. Dig a hole and place the seeds 1 inch deep and 2 inches apart.
Backfill with compost and soil and cover it with water, but don’t make the soil too soggy. Make sure the soil is kept moist every time you water the plant. Thin the seedlings if they reach 4-6 inches tall in order to keep this plant at its best condition.

  • Plant A Cutting
In Moringa tree planting tips, you can choose between planting the seeds and planting a cutting instead of seeds. This means there must be at least one Moringa mature tree. The stems from mature trees are then taken to be replanted.
To grow Moringas in pots, choose the healthy branch to cut off around 3-6 feet long with 1 inch diameter. If there is a majority of foliage on its cutting, remove them before planting it. Make a diagonal cut at both ends but still with 3 feet long using pruning shears.
When it comes to planting, push the cutting 1/3 of the way into the soil after exposing the nodes of it. Cover it with soil and do it tightly in order to let the cutting stand on its own. Make sure to keep the soil moist by watering the plant without overwatering.

Moringa trees are not too difficult to grow, whether the one from seeds or from a cutting. When the plant grows well, Moringas are ready to harvest and use. You can consume the leaves, seeds, and fruit for medical and nutritional needs.
